Your Functional Medicine Workup: What to Expect
A clear, step-by-step path from first conversation to a plan built around your body — including the testing, when it’s warranted.
Root cause takes detective work
Symptoms tell us where to look, not what’s causing the problem. A functional medicine workup combines a deep dive into your health history with targeted lab testing, so your plan is built on data — not guesswork.
Here’s exactly how it works, step by step. No surprises.
Step 1 — Free intro call
Let’s make sure we’re a fit
A short, no-pressure conversation about what you’re dealing with and whether a functional medicine workup makes sense for you. If it does, we’ll talk about next steps. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too.
Step 2 — The initial visit ($225)
The deep dive
This is where the detective work starts: a thorough review of your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and what you’ve already tried. By the end of the visit, I’ll have a clear picture of which body systems need a closer look — and whether lab testing will actually change your plan. I don’t order tests for the sake of ordering tests.
Available in person or online.
Step 3 — Targeted lab testing (only if warranted)
Data, not guesswork
If your assessment points to questions only labs can answer, I’ll order the right tests — never a generic panel.
Normal isn’t optimal
Standard labs use pathological ranges — wide bands based on averages from mostly sick people. If you’re inside the band, you’re “normal.” Functional medicine uses narrower optimal ranges based on healthy people, which catches subclinical imbalances before they become disease. That’s why your doctor can say your bloodwork is fine while you still feel terrible.
These are the tests I use:
- Expanded blood panels (LabCorp) — deeper than standard panels. We look at patterns and optimal ranges across metabolic, thyroid, nutrient, and inflammation markers. Drawn at any LabCorp location.
- GI-MAP (stool test) — what’s living in your gut: bacteria, yeast, parasites, and digestive function markers. Done at home, mailed to the lab.
- Cyrex food sensitivity — which foods your immune system reacts to.
- DUTCH (urine test) — hormone metabolism, when clinically indicated. Done at home.
Tests are ordered after your initial visit and billed separately. Kits handed to you at the office or shipped — the full workup works remotely.
Step 4 — Follow-up: results + your plan ($150)
This is where it comes together
We go through your results together, in plain language, and build your personalized plan: targeted supplements (through my online dispensary), nutrition, and lifestyle steps.
Step 5 — Ongoing
Track, adjust, retest when it makes sense
We check in, adjust the plan, and retest only when there’s a reason to.
