Golfer’s Elbow Treatment
If the inside of your elbow aches every time you swing, lift, or even shake hands, you’re not alone. Golfer’s elbow is stubborn — but in my experience, it responds beautifully to the right kind of hands-on care. You don’t have to give up the game you love to get relief.
Understanding Golfer’s Elbow
Golfer’s elbow — medial epicondylitis — is irritation of the tendons that attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow. It comes from repetitive gripping, swinging, and wrist flexion, which is why golfers, tennis players, weightlifters, and manual workers all land in my office with it. The pain often starts as a dull ache and builds until even opening a jar or turning a doorknob hurts.
How Adam Treats Golfer’s Elbow
My approach starts with a thorough orthopedic assessment so I know exactly which tendons and tissues are involved. I use dry needling to release taut bands in your forearm flexors, acupuncture to calm the irritated tendon, and hands-on techniques to restore normal movement. Just as importantly, I look at the whole chain — grip, wrist, and shoulder mechanics — so the pain doesn’t keep coming back.
Acupuncture for Golfer’s Elbow
Dry needling the forearm flexor muscles releases trigger points that keep the tendon under constant tension. Acupuncture around the medial epicondyle increases local blood flow — exactly what a chronically irritated tendon needs to heal. Many of my patients notice their grip feels stronger and the ache fades within the first few visits.
Functional Medicine for Golfer’s Elbow
Tendons heal slowly when the body is stuck in chronic inflammation. We look at nutrition, sleep, blood sugar balance, and everyday stressors that may be keeping your tissues from repairing. Small shifts — like dialing in protein intake and managing training load — often make the difference between a tendon that lingers and one that finally heals.
Supplements I often suggest
For golfer’s elbow, these are the supplements I suggest most often in my practice:
- Inflammatone (Designs for Health) — Herbs, nutrients, and enzymes that help modulate the inflammatory response.
- Turmero Active (Apex Energetics) — High-absorption liquid curcumin for joint comfort.
- OmegAvail Hi-Po Fish Oil (Designs for Health) — 1,600 mg EPA/DHA per serving with lipase for absorption — no fishy aftertaste.
