Acupuncture for Running

I work with runners, so I know what running does to your body — the repetitive pounding on your knees, the IT band tightness that creeps in at mile 8, the plantar fascia barking on your first steps in the morning. My job is to keep you logging miles, not sitting out.

Common Running Injuries I Treat

  • IT band syndrome — sharp pain on the outside of the knee that builds with every mile.
  • Plantar fasciitis — stabbing heel pain with your first steps in the morning.
  • Shin splints — aching along the shin bones from ramping up mileage too fast.
  • Runner’s knee — dull pain around the kneecap, especially on hills and stairs.

How I Work With Running Athletes

I start with a runner-specific assessment, looking at your gait, footwear, training load, and the movement patterns behind your pain. Then I use orthopedic acupuncture and dry needling to calm irritated tissue, release tight structures, and restore healthy mechanics. Treatment always ties back to your training: we manage the injury while keeping you running safely, with a clear return-to-plan that protects your goals. I also put athletes through EXSTORE testing (Examine, Restore) to determine which muscles aren’t firing properly, so treatment targets the real problem. My focus is getting you back to full mileage stronger than before.

Supplements I often suggest

For running, these are the supplements I suggest most often in my practice:

  • PerfectAmino Powder, Mixed Berry (BodyHealth) — Essential amino acids for muscle protein synthesis — no calories, won’t break a fast.
  • Creatine Monohydrate Powder, Unflavored (Designs for Health) — Supports muscle growth and performance when paired with resistance training.
  • OmegAvail Hi-Po Fish Oil (Designs for Health) — 1,600 mg EPA/DHA per serving with lipase for absorption — no fishy aftertaste.
