Acupuncture for Yoga

I treat athletes because I am one. I know what a serious yoga practice does to your body — the wrist strain from chaturangas, the hamstring pulls from pushing depth, the shoulder impingement from inversions. I’ve been on the mat. My job is to keep your practice sustainable, not sidelined by injury.

Common Yoga Injuries I Treat

  • Wrist strain — loading the wrists in plank, chaturanga, and arm balances day after day can inflame the tendons and small joints of the wrist.
  • Shoulder impingement — repetitive chaturangas and overhead binds can pinch the rotator cuff, especially when the shoulders round forward.
  • Hamstring strain — deep forward folds and hurried warm-ups can pull hamstring fibers, leaving a stubborn tender spot near the sit bone.
  • Lower back pain — aggressive backbends and rounded forward folds stress the lumbar spine, and the ache often lingers well after class.

How I Work With Yoga Athletes

I work with yogis using orthopedic acupuncture and dry needling to calm irritated wrists and shoulders, release protective tension in the low back and hamstrings, and help you reclaim the mobility you’re chasing. My assessment is sport-specific: I look at your practice style, your sequencing, and your training load — not just where it hurts. I also put athletes through EXSTORE testing (Examine, Restore) to determine which muscles aren’t firing properly, so treatment targets the real problem. And everything I do is aimed at return to play, with a clear plan to get you back on the mat, flowing through your full practice, and deepening it safely.

Supplements I often suggest

For yoga, these are the supplements I suggest most often in my practice:

  • PerfectAmino Powder, Mixed Berry (BodyHealth) — Essential amino acids for muscle protein synthesis — no calories, won’t break a fast.
  • Creatine Monohydrate Powder, Unflavored (Designs for Health) — Supports muscle growth and performance when paired with resistance training.
  • OmegAvail Hi-Po Fish Oil (Designs for Health) — 1,600 mg EPA/DHA per serving with lipase for absorption — no fishy aftertaste.
